Rihanna – “S&M”

I had no clue what S&M meant before, but after listening to this new Rihanna track I think I have a pretty good idea. I may be bad, but I’m perfectly good at it, sex in the air I don’t care I love the smell of it/ Sticks and stones may break my bones, but chains and whips excite me. Yes, what you just read is part of the chorus. “S&M” will be the third single of Rihanna’s album, Loud , and I have to say that I am slightly disappointed. The song is good, I just feel that it’s another dance track laced with sexual innuendo and not much substance.

Is Rihanna Having Drake’s Baby???

Unfortunately not. But fortunately (for me) I did get you to click on this post. A year ago, the thought of Rihanna having Drake’s baby might not have seemed so far fetched. In fact, the two celebrities were an item before Rihanna unceremoniously dumped Drake. In typical wear-my-heart-on-my-sleeves fashion, Drake wrote not only wrote a song about the relationship but also did an interview for the NY Times.

We might not be able to see what Rihanna and Drake’s baby would look like, but we do know what it sounds like, and it ain’t bad. I believe Drake wrote this song for Rihanna last year, but it never made the cut on her album. There’s not much substance lyrically, but the beats catchy.

Rihanna – “What’s My Name” ft. Drake

Chris Brown – “Yeah 3x”

Maybe not yet but he’s close. His latest single, “Dueces” has charted pretty well and it’s been a while since that whole fiasco with Rihanna. In the mold of “Forever”, Chris Brown delivers “Yeah 3x”, another pop track aimed at the ladies, although this one has more of an electronic/house sound. It’s a solid track, it didn’t wow me, but I could see this song doing very well on the charts.

That being said, I want to get back to “Dueces”. This may sound egotistical, but more and more lately I’ve begun realizing that I have some great fucking taste in music. I had the song “Deuces” way before it was released as a single to the mainstream and I remember thinking to myself, “this could be a hit”. Well, turns out I was right, because there’s a remix coming and by the looks of it, it’s gonna be dope. Here’s who’s rumored to be featured on the “Dueces” remix: T.I., Kanye West, Drake, Fabolous and Andre 3000. Now I don’t know about you, but that sounds like sick fucking lineup. Can’t wait.

There’s no disputing that David Guetta is a top five DJ and is straight up killing shit right now. Guetta has been doin’ work on the electronic/house scene for some time and is now finally bringing his talents to the mainstream. Before One Love, I think I’d only heard about 4 or 5 Guetta songs. Since then, Guetta has worked with and produced hits for Kelly Rowland, The Black Eye Peas, and Akon.

He builds off his massive success to bring us a banger in “Club Can’t Handle Me”, a swagger filled club joint he produced for Flo Rida, as well as producing two brand new songs with Rihanna and Akon.

Guetta just has the groove right now where everything turns to gold. “Who’s That Chick?” by Rihanna will hit number 1 on the charts when it’s released, and “Angel” by Akon won’t be far behind. Both tracks feature Guetta’s electronic touch, great buildups followed by a thumping, club heavy beat.

Rihanna – “Only Girl (In The World)”

Meh. That’s what I give this song. I read somewhere last month that Rihanna’s label was looking for the next big Rihanna hit. I hope this is not it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad, I really like the chorus, it sounds like a house remix. But the rest of the song is pretty mediocre. I’m sure it will chart well though.

Rihanna has just made pop culture history; becoming one of four sensational artists to have 6 singles reach number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The other three, you guessed it: Mariah Carey, Beyonce and Lady Gaga. Now that’s some pretty exclusive company.

Here’s Eminem and Rihanna’s new video for “Love The Way You Lie”. I don’t really see what all the hoopla is about the song, and I have conflicting views about the video,  but it does combine star power and eye candy. Not only does the video feature rap star Eminem and pop culture icon Rihanna, but the always sexy Megan Fox makes an extended cameo as well. Have a look.

Katy Perry – “Milk Milk Lemonade”/“Teenage Dream”

Two more tracks from Katy Perry. The first song is alright, I wasn’t really feeling it but someone else might be. The second song is much better, I believe its her second single, and what you’d expect from Katy Perry. Good track.

Bun B – “Real Live” ft. Gator & GLC

Another nice bonus track off Bun’s Trill O.G.

Bei Major – Upside Down Mixtape

I’m a big Bei Major fan and I think you guys should give him a listen. Here’s his mixtape.

Also, Kanye and Eminem are set to release new videos for “Power” and “Love the Way You Lie” tonight on MTV. Tune in and check em’ out.

Yolanda Be Cool – “We No Speak Americano”

I was just doing some internet browsing when I stumbled upon this song. Its amazing. This song is by Australian Duo Yolanda Be Cool and producer DCUP. According to wikipedia, this song has been an international hit, but I have yet to hear it in the states.

Yolanda Be Cool classify themselves as “Swing House”, which I’ve never heard of before but it sounds cool. This song is different than most house tracks. It has pop and dance to it but it’s not something you’d dance to at a club. The song itself is a sample of “Tu vuo  fa l’americano” by some old as Italian dude. Definitely worth a download.

The guys, or guy, over at Remix-Nation do a really good job. Honestly it’s where I go to get most of my techno, house, mashups, etc. You guys should check it out.

Clay and Justin – “Rude Mouse” (Modest Mouse vs. Rihanna)

Two great songs make a better one right? Not really but this is pretty good.

Clay and Justin – “Blow Your Money To Die With”(M83 vs. Birdman ft. Drake, Lil’ Wayne

I like this song better than the previous one. The epic music by M83 is a great contrast to “Money To Blow”. Have a listen.

Crystal Castles – “Vietnam” (Midnight Conspiracy Remix)

No words to this one but its a really good track you might hear at a rave.

The Killers – “Smile Like You Mean It” (TGIK Broken Hearts Remix)

Wow. Got chills when I heard this one. The original is phenomenal and this is pretty damn good too. Great buildup. Well worth the download.

Michael Jackson – “Smooth Criminal” (Dave Spritz Remix)

I’m sure there are a bunch of remixes to this classic, but I haven’t heard any yet so here ya go.

Katy Perry – “Hot and Cold” (Damien Espinosa Club Remix)

You can never go wrong with Katy Perry. This dance track is definitely worth a listen.

DJ Fresh – “Gold Dust” (Flux Pavillion Remix)

This dubstep remix had me nodding my head like a late 90’s rap joint. Definitely a download.

Freestylers – “Cracks” (Flux Pavillion Remix)

Another great dubstep track. I’ve never been into dubstep before but these are quite good.

You can listen to and download all the tracks using the Box.net widget on the sidebar.

Alright, so I haven’t been on the whole electronic, remix, mashup, scene very long, but I can see why these once niche genres are becoming more mainstream – some of them are simply amazing. Below is a small list of some of my favorite songs this summer:

Bedrock (Vindata Remix)- This remix is amazing. The original was already bumping but Vindata takes it to another level. The Vocals blend in perfectly with the instrumental even though its a totally different beat. This song has been at the top of my list all summer.

OMG (Vindata Remix) – These guys are really good. Once again they took another chart topper and made it even better. This song is more true to the original but makes you wanna jump up and dance nonetheless.

La Roux – Bulletproof (Religion Remix) – I’ve still haven’t heard the original of this track but from what I can tell La Roux must be pretty good. I really do like the lead singers voice; is she foreign? Probably. This track does a great job of building into an awesome remix and then has some dubstep added in. Sick.

Katy Perry – California Gurls (MSTRKRFT remix) – When I first heard the original of this song way back when it first came out, the first thing I thought was that it would make a great remix. And it has, dozens in fact. But I haven’t heard one better than this. I didn’t really know of MSTRKRFT until “Heartbreaker” and I’ve followed them ever since. This song sounds like a fight scene from Starwars versus the sweet voice of Katy Perry, but in a good way.

Taio Cruz – Dynamite (Mixin Marc Club Remix) – This dude Taio Cruz has been on fire for a minute now. What has he had like 3 hit singles in the top ten this year? Pretty impressive. “Dynamite” is already one of the summer’s hottest songs and I think Dynamite is his best yet. But the remix is even better. Every time I play it I wanna slam my head into a wall and go nuts.

Some Rude Chords (Kinetic Concept remix) – Are you excited just by reading the title, because you should be. This song is truly a great mashup. It combines pop sensation Rihanna with deadmau5, who is a House staple. This track does a great job of blending in Rihanna’s vocals with the deadmau5 instrumental. Simply phenomenal.

Swedish House Mafia – Show Me One (Laidback Luke) – I think this is the best remix/mashup of the bunch. All the artists featured here are beasts. Swedish House Mafia has simply been tearing up the House circuit and Laidback Luke is always a must listen. This track will blow your mind.
