The Enterprise of One

Posted: December 28, 2010, 12 in Uncategorized

I read a really interesting post by Stephen Martin on TechCrunch titled, “The Enterprise of One”.

Martin talks about how a new breed of entrepreneur is rising, where the determinants of successful enterprise are no longer limited to background, resources or education.

Due to the changing business landscape, rapid techonological innovation, and reduced barriers to entry and transaction costs, Martin argues that “individual strengths, passions, and expertise” are the most important factors in whether an individual or business is successful.

I would wholeheartedly agree with this.

I am my Personal Brand, I am an Enterprise of One.

I believe that I am truly the only person responsible for my successes and failures.

Sure, there is luck and other factors involved, but ultimately it comes down to me, the individual.

I can start a blog or an online business with little or no capital.

I have access to resources where I can obtain funding, or simply advice from experienced entreprenuers who have been there before.

And although I am well-educated, there are still many things that I don’t know. But with the web, the resources to do my own programming or SEO are right at my fingertips, meaning that I can constantly improve.

I’m ready to be part of this new class of entreprenuer, I just don’t know where to start.

If this song were playing and I had to leave the club, I’d be pretty pissed because this song is dope. Produced by The Cataracs, this song will have your heart thumping and your fist pumping. The Cataracs made it big with “Like a G6” which they produced for the Far East Movement, and have another hit with “Kick Us Out”. This song is exactly the kind of catchy, bass heavy, electronic music that is so popular nowadays. If this song is released as a single, don’t be surprised if it heats up the charts as well.

Like the majority of people, the first Matt and Kim song I’d ever heard was 2009’s hit, “Daylight“. Intrigued by the poppy synth goodness of the track, I then looked up their other tracks. But alas, none were as good as Daylight. So I jumped off the Matt and Kim bandwagon. But over this past week, I’ve heard two new songs that have piqued my interest in the duo again. “Good for Great” is almost on the same level as “Daylight” and “Block after Block” isn’t far behind. Both are from Matt and Kim’s latest album Sidewalks, which I will be downloading shortly. Enjoy.

Calvin Harris

Ever heard of him? Me neither, at least not until a week ago. I decided to take a break from Last.fm and use Pandora and discovered a boatload of new music I need to download. One artist that stood out to me was Calvin Harris. He combines a great voice with beats that have a lot of pop and electronic musical elements. Hence, you have great music you can sing and dance to. I strongly suggest you play the second song at parties, it really gets you going.

“Flashback”

“You Used to Hold Me”

I don’t normally post rock songs, but when I do they’re pretty good. I’m not really sure if I should call this group “rock” however. Racecar Spacecar, (great name btw) which is where I found the song, calls them a reggae-tinged O.A.R. or Dispatch. I don’t really now what that means because I’ve never really listened to either, but I’m more inclined to say they sound like Sublime.  What do you think?

There’s been one track, and one track only that I’ve been waiting to hear off “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy”: and it’s “All the Lights”. When Kanye first graced us with a snippet for the song, it was titled “Ghetto University” and was supposed to feature Drake. Then he later announced that more names would appear on the finished version, including Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Fergie, Elton John and many more. ( Uh oh, I think I just pitched a tent.)

Although the finished version does not include Drake, it is a much better song. The beat is finished and sounds fantastic. Apart from the awesome trumpet that is present throughout the song, there are also strings and Elton John applies his musical touch on the piano. All in all, one of the better songs that I’ve listened to this year.

Rihanna – “S&M”

I had no clue what S&M meant before, but after listening to this new Rihanna track I think I have a pretty good idea. I may be bad, but I’m perfectly good at it, sex in the air I don’t care I love the smell of it/ Sticks and stones may break my bones, but chains and whips excite me. Yes, what you just read is part of the chorus. “S&M” will be the third single of Rihanna’s album, Loud , and I have to say that I am slightly disappointed. The song is good, I just feel that it’s another dance track laced with sexual innuendo and not much substance.

I saw this track on Sunset in the Rearview and when I read her write-up, I was like, “how could a Nicki and Eminem song be mediocre?” Well, after listening to it I have to say that it is. The beat produced by Swizz Beatz doesn’t really resonate with me, although at times it has potential. Which doesn’t surprise me because for as many hits as Swizz has produced, he definitely has produced some misses. And then Nicki’s flow was a little off-putting to me as well – I think she could have come harder. The one bright spot is Eminem, who of course kills it. Here’s a tasty sample:

“I ain’t no S&M but my whips off the chain/a little drop of candy paint drips off the frame/twisted ass mind got a pencil for brain and a razor for head, fucking pencil for a frame/if you don’t like it then peel off bitch, every last women on earth I’ll kill off and I still wouldn’t fuck you slut, so wipe the smile on your grill off”

To put it simply. Brilliance.

Nicki Minaj – “Roman’s Revenge” ft. Eminem

There are certain songs, movies, and video games that were important parts of our childhood and have been subsequently ingrained in popular culture. One example is  the Ghostbusters movie. An all time favorite of mine and likely countless others, the Ghostbusters were able to transport us out of this world and into the supernatural, while also providing a catchy theme song. You’d be hard pressed to find an adult who couldn’t recite the words to you by heart. So I offer you a remix that combines the Ghostbusters’ theme song with LMFAO’s “Bustin Makes Me Feel Good”. It’s pretty damn good.

Similar to Ghostbusters, is a game I think everyone remembers playing: Tetris. Tetris was electronic music before it there was even electronic music. Ok maybe that’s not exactly true, but you get the point. So I present to you “Tetris” by Electrixx. This song makes me wish I still had my Gameboy color :(.
